The Pen Is So Mighty

Today's Way Khool Site is: Smith Mag

I entered my six-word memoir for their book, "Not Quite What I Was Planning", and I was published in it! But this was ONLY one of the great writing contests you'll find on their site. I want to enter them all if I can MAKE the time.

The one that really appeals to me is the one where you win and get your photo on a pickle jar! Here's what they write, "Have you ever dreamed of your beautiful, pregnant belly featured on a jar of mouth-watering pickles? Us, too." Well, I didn't exactly dream this, but now that they phrase it that way, I say-- Hell Yes! I'd LOVE to be featured on a pickle jar.

If you've read my Who's Yo Mama blog today, you would know that I'm currently sorting through tons and tons of old photos, and in that photo pile, there must be at least one awesome photo of me with my bulging belly. Pickle Jar here I come!

Seriously--why don't you enter some of your stories and/or belly photos? It's so much fun! You too could become a Pickle Jar Celebrity.

The Niftiest Invention

Today's Way Khool Site is: ScanR

I think this is the khoolest product! Why did we have to wait so long for it to be invented?

Here's what the site writes:

"Turn your camera phone into a scanner, copier, and fax.

  • Clean photos of documents, whiteboards and business cards.
  • Extract any text and contact information
  • Store, search and share online"
All you have to do is take a photo with your camera phone, send it to ScanR, and then check your email. ScanR does all the rest. Et voila!

Let It Be

Today's Way Khool Site is: Get Over It

This site offers you the opportunity to post your regrets and read the regrets of others, and I feel it serves a very therapeutic purpose. Like the title says--GET OVER IT--enough already!

There is an archive of regrets too...maybe you'll find some that match yours?

This is what the site writes:

"Do you have any regrets? Of course you do. What kind of question is that? Perhaps they are nothing more than passing musings. A shrug of the shoulders and the lesson is learned. Regret can be loads of fun, except when its not. Maybe the wilds of your imagination are periodically arrested by it. Sleeping isn’t nearly as enjoyable, or productive, while such a haunting has you wide-eyed and vainly staring into the night. We can sure be silly sometimes."

Yeh, I have regrets in case you're wondering. Lots of them!

Bloggers Unite--Human Rights

Today's Way Khool Site is: Blog Catalog's Bloggers Unite

I believe this is the second year the social networking platform Blog Catalog has encouraged it's members to unite and blog on an awareness-raising subject matter. I participated last year, and I'm participating again this year. This year's focus is Human Rights.

If you haven't become affiliated with Blog Catalog, you may wish to as they are a very worthy online group where you can meet lots of fellow bloggers and interact in a large selection of resonant groups.

As many know who regularly read this blog, I've given the Way Khool Award to many organizations and non-profits through the years which have inspired me. There are so many people in need of our help, and there's a huge list to draw from.

Humanity is at a touch-n-go moment now as we're involved in the Great Shift of the Ages. Will we do ourselves in, or will we survive? The clock is ticking.

For many, time has run out, and the rage and sadness many of us feel for the human rights violations in places like Zimbabwe, Darfur, Haiti, and MANY other places is mounting. We ask ourselves, "What can little old me do?" Just sending money or lending a hand to organizations often doesn't seem enough!

Most of us have human rights violations which trigger us the most. For me, it's the deplorable situation of white slavery throughout the world. The thought of so many, many women being held captive and abused as sex slaves makes me extremely sad AND angry. The number of women kept as sex slaves and sold into white slavery is staggering. Young women are taken from their families or given away by their family to die of Aids, torture, and other diseases. When they're no longer useful, they are trashed. So many of these are very young girls! I bring your attention to this today, and I ask you to bring your consciousness and prayers and aid to eliminate this situation for these poor women in peril.

Car Sharing Comes Of Age

Today's Way Khool Site is: Car Sharing

With the price of gasoline being what it is and perhaps going even higher, the concept of car sharing may become more popular. I think it's a great idea, especially for high traffic urban areas.

Here's what the site writes:

"Transportation is the life-blood of any economy. And yet, our fast-growing urban centres are faced with increasingly clogged arteries.

Car Sharing is the "missing link" in our urban transportation systems. The biggest determinant to vehicle use is vehicle ownership. Car Sharing helps people kick the car-owning habit, without going cold turkey, and with the financial reward of saving money.

Car Sharing should be an important option in every major urban centre. While not a magic bullet to solve all traffic and air quality problems, especially commuter-related issues, it is an important new tool that can deliver real benefits quickly from primarily market-based capital." Read more on the site.

Maybe it's time for all us to be less greedy and share!

Pangea Day

Today's Way Khool Site is: Pangea Day

Today is the day of this major global film event--you can tune in wherever you are on the net or cellphone! You don't even have to attend a local live event if you don't wish or can't make it!

Here's what the website writes about today's BIG worldwide event:

"Pangea Day taps the power of film to strengthen tolerance and compassion while uniting millions of people to build a better future.

In a world where people are often divided by borders, difference, and conflict, it's easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that — to help people see themselves in others — through the power of film.

On May 10, 2008 — Pangea Day — sites in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro will be linked live to produce a program of powerful films, visionary speakers, and uplifting music.

The program will be broadcast live to the world through the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones.

Of course, movies alone can't change the world. But the people who watch them can. So following May 10, 2008, Pangea Day organizers will facilitate community-building activities around the world by connecting inspired viewers with numerous organizations that are already doing groundbreaking work."

So tune in and unite!

Put A Dress on Someone Special

Today's Way Khool Site is: Donate My Dress

With everyone in America tightening their belts these days because of the high prices of gas and other commodities, the time has come for organizations such as Donate My Dress! Why not donate your barely used prom dress and other special occasion dresses to this organization and help out someone who could use it???

Here's what the organization writes on their site:

"DonateMyDress.org is the first national campaign designed to encourage girls around the country to donate their prom and special occasion dresses to those who cannot afford to finance the costly experience of going to their prom, sweet 16, quinceañera or formal on their own. The site features a directory of local dress drive organizations across the U.S. that will enable girls to easily find out where in their local markets they can donate a dress or receive one. In addition, DonateMyDress.org contains information on upcoming local events, a photo gallery of real girls donating and receiving dresses, as well as links to content on prom and quinceañera planning, hair and makeup tips, and other worthy causes."
